Compete to Win - sustainable game economy

While on-chain gaming has been primarily defined by the Play-to-Earn revenue model, there is much more to be explored in competitive on-chain gaming by focusing on providing players with aligned incentives.

A vital aspect of delivering a competitive environment and experience is igniting the spirit of competition within players. From classic arcade games to modern esports titles, the best players always earn rewards by reaching the top. With Elympics, creating the right incentives can be personalized based on three distinct competition modules.

Leaderboard

Long-term competition in the form of a Leaderboard can incentivize players to engage in a series of playthroughs instead of a single match. Titles focused on creating an environment in which players compete to climb up the leaderboard and earn the rewards from a pooled stake are highly competitive and rewarding at the same time.

On-chain Duel

Games focusing on creation of a PvP environment incentivize players by the creation of a shared reward pool which in turn will bolster the engagement and competitive spirit. Regardless of whether your game runs a 1vs1 matches, or realtime battle royale with 100+ players – staking for a reward in a skill-based gameplay boosts engagement and retention.

Tournament

Tournaments are the heart of any competition. Games in which players go through a series of matches in order to eliminate their competitors, or in taking part in a league-style tournament allows your players to compete for a reward that is fully player-funded.

Gameplay Guidelines

Engaging and immersive gameplay should be a part of every successful game.

Make sure your game finds its audience and get started with our gameplay guidelines.

1. Easy to learn, difficult to master

Your gameplay should be self-explanatory. This means that little to no tutorial should be required to start playing. If the tutorial is needed, however, try to limit this to simple iconography, so that people can jump right in.

2. Keep it short

The average single match duration should be no longer than 5 minutes. Longer feedback loops tend to lower much-desired replayability, as it’s seen as a significant time investment.

3. Make it practicable

Engaging gameplay doesn't end with mechanics. Game replayability grows drastically when the game is genuinely skill-based. Make it so that although players intuitively know what the game is about, it takes them many repetitions to master it.

4. Be fair

Reward players for their time and effort. Fair gameplay determines if players are satisfied with their results and greatly impacts the retention.

5. Simple and rewarding core loop

Creating one sounds easy, but it's far from truth. We know all the best tips and tricks for building and implementing engaging gameplay. Some of the best practices are published on our blog.

New business model

Paid Competitive Gaming - Entering New Paradigm

Paid Competitive Gaming represents the new paradigm upon which the next generation of games is being built. The incentive mechanisms of the skill-based approach excel at offering competitive games an environment where players are motivated to refine their skills and climb the leaderboard to reach the top.

Remember

Don’t miss out on security

Key element of the skill-based approach offered by Elympics is the safety of the gaming session. Highly competitive environments can be susceptible to exploitative behaviors. That's why Elympics prioritizes providing top-level security mechanisms to ensure fair competition.

Trust is effectively implemented through the Server-Authority design, preventing players from accessing data to manipulate game results. Server-Authority infrastructure also provides a trustless source of truth for players by introducing In-Game Oracles.

Fully embracing skill-based mechanics requires one last element. The external source of truth serves as the focal point for result settlement and fair distribution of rewards. However, despite the trustless nature of the infrastructure, players may still have concerns about the fairness of the final results. The solution lies in the Proof of Game concept, allowing both parties to access Verifiable Replays stored on-chain.
